Royal Yugoslav Navy Petty Officer Alexsandar Nincic

It took 70 years but yesterday,Monday 6th February 2017, the family of Petty Officer Alexander Nincic finally got the opportunity to pay their respects to the brave Royal Yugoslavian sailor who died whilst in the Auxilliary Military Hospital Rainhill on 2nd October 1946.

Ivana and Dubravka travelled from Belgrade, Serbia as representatives of their family.

The service was conducted by a Serbian Orthodox priest in a traditional Orthodox way.

The service was attended by The Royal Naval Association, Royal British Legion,TS Scimitar, veterans of the navy and army. Members of Rainhill Civic society, representatives of St.Helens Rolls of Honour, St.Helens Council representatives and members of the public.

After the service Ivana and Dubravka with some of the above representatives were welcomed by The Mayor & Mayoress of St.Helens in The Mayors Parlour where they enjoyed hospitality and an interesting visit to The Town Hall.

They returned to Belgrade with lots of memories and gifts to share with their family in Serbia

The event was organised by The Friends of St.Helens Cemetery. Volunteers of the group attended at the service
